Compare pathways, not just costs

A cost-ranked curve alone can send the wrong signal - it will happily rank a cheap credit above an expensive process redesign. This tool keeps the mitigation hierarchy in view: what's measured, what's avoided, reduced and substituted first, where sector and market instruments fit, and where removals are gated to genuine unavoidable residual only.

Base-year total: 200,000 tCO2e. Target line is linear from base year to the near-term target, then linear from near-term to net-zero - a standard approximation of an SBTi 1.5°C-aligned trajectory, not a substitute for validated target-setting.
Emissions pathway
Baseline sliced by mitigation-hierarchy wedges down to genuine residual
Marginal abatement cost - hierarchy-gated
Bars are the active levers in the selected scenario, sized by effective abatement
Reference price € /t - bars above this line cost more than the compliance carbon price
Trajectories, overlaid
All three scenarios against the same target line
2–5 · Lever library
Illustrative starting data - edit costs, potential and timing, and check which scenario each lever belongs to
Beyond value chain mitigation (BVCM)
Contribution-based, non-netting - kept outside the target boundary by design
Per SBTi and ISO 14068 guidance, BVCM finance does not count toward the reduction or removal target above. It's tracked here separately so it never gets silently netted into the pathway.

Illustrative planning tool, not a compliance model. Target-line shape is a simplified two-segment linear approximation of an SBTi 1.5°C trajectory; real target validation requires the SBTi tools and sector-specific guidance. Removal levers are capped programmatically each year to the residual remaining after all other tiers - they cannot be used to substitute for available reduction, and excess removal capacity beyond the residual is never double-counted. Lever costs, potentials and timings live in the LEVERS array in the script and should be replaced with your own data before this is used for real decisions.
